There are many opportunities for involvement in the Poughkeepsie School District.  What follows is a list of the existing groups or meetings that parents and members of the community may consider becoming involved in:

  • Attend Board of Education Meetings
Board of Education meetings are usually held the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.  The scrolling marquee at the top of the page displays the next meeting location and date.  The complete meeting schedule can be found here.  If is recommended that you confirm all meetings with the district at 845-451-4900 as meeting dates/locations may be changed.

  • Join a Building BLT
Building BLT's  are part of the district's plan for shared decision making.  Membership is open to both parents and members of the community based on the availability of an open seat on the committee.

  • Join a Building PTA

  • Join the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC)
The CAC started out as a group of concerned parents (self named PART - Parent Administration Relay Team) that brought a list of issues to the district administration in 2004.  In a series of meetings, the group worked with district administration to resolve this list of concerns.  The group evolved in to a Board of Education Committee called the Citizens Advisory Committee.  Interested persons should contact the district clerk at 845-485-3355 for more information about this group.

  • Wellness Committee
In 2005, in compliance with New York State Law, the Board of Education formed a Wellness Committee. Initially the Committee was very active and drafted the District's Wellness Policy.  Since 2006 the Committee has not been active.

  • Audit Committee
In December of 2005, in compliance with New York State Law, the Boar of Education formed the District Audit Committee.   Interested persons should contact the district clerk at 845-485-3355 for more information about this group.

If none of the above options are something that you are interested in but you still want to be involved, I recommend that you contact the district directly to find a way that you can become involved.
