This page defines the common terms and acronyms used in the education setting.  This list is far from complete and I welcome recommendations of words to add.


 

AP Assistant Principal
BLT Building Level Team
CAC Citizen's Advisory Committee.  A Board appointed committee that advises the Board on issues.
CSE Committee on Special Education.
CPSE Committee on Preschool Special Education.
DRA Deficit Reduction Assessment.  The term used by Governor Patterson to describe the reduction of State Aid to school districts in his December 2008 budget.
FERPA The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA, also known as the Buckley Amendment) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

FOIL (New York State) Freedom of Information Law
NCLB No Child Left Behind
PART Parent Administrative Relay Team.  A parent group headed by local resident Dan McCabe.  The group has periodically met with district administration to discuss issues and propose solutions.  Update June 2006: The PART group has become the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) at the encouragement of the Administration.
